Which is the right set for you?

Smart Doll's are available in two different flavors - a "Sports Bra Set" & "Apparel Set." Guys normally wear bra's at home when nobody is looking but our Smart Doll guys don't which is why we've given them a pair of Boxer Shorts instead. If you are buying a Smart Doll for the first time then choosing either set is enough - you do not need to get anything else in addition - but extra accessories will enhance your Smart Doll experience.
If you are going to keep your Smart Doll at home or in the office and prefer them skimpy then go for the Sports Bra Set - but the Apparel Set is way better value for your cash.

Choose the Apparel set if you plan on taking them out n about - and save money at the same time as it will cost you more to buy the apparel set items separately. If you take them out in the Sports Bra Set then they may catch a cold. Alternatively you may want to go for the Sports Bra Set and then choose to customize the look and feel of your Smart Doll by buying additional apparel items. You can see what items the current Apparel Set consists of on this page.

Which is the right body type for you?

While the head and hands will be vinyl - you have a choice of two different types of body - one is referred to as Cortex and the other as Vinyl. Both body types are pre-built.

Both are made from the same 3D data and share pretty much the same shape and form - all our apparel, accessories and body parts are compatible with both body types. The fundamental difference is the material and the way they are constructed. Vinyl being more expensive does not make it better than Cortex. Neither type is more superior than the other and they both have their own strengths depending on your needs.

To find out more about the differences then read the Cortex or Vinyl post which should give you more info to make a decision.

Unfortunately we don't own DHL or FedEx (yet) nor do we have celestial powers over a pandemic to guarantee a delivery date on the other side of the world - and we don't enjoy it when people refuse to pay import taxes resulting in goods being returned to us. Not to mention that there are people who reject packages that don't arrive in time for a birthday.

We presume that your order is reliant on such requests being answered.
We can't do any of the above and can't tell you who shot first even though we think it was Han. So don't ask :-)

In 2015, I started to develop a skin tone that was to be known as "Cocoa," but it ended up being more of a "purple."

The sunk cost fallacy (an unrecoverable cost) meant that I ended up keeping the purple skin tone around even though it didn't represent anybody apart from Thanos.

The sunk cost fallacy comes about from the costs involved in developing a color match for the frame (injection-molded Polyoxymethylene) and the shell (slush cast Soft Vinyl). Light diffuses when it reflects from a matte surface which causes the material color to appear lighter. The differing material properties of both Polyoxymethylene and Soft Vinyl make color matching a time-consuming and costly process as we need to do actual casts to see how light will reflect from the surface of the component.

If you take one of our vinyl components like the bust or head cap, you will notice that the color is darker on the inside than the outside due to the diffused reflection of light from the matte surface. To attain the best match, we need to guesstimate how much darker the base color should be.

Sandblasting is the process that gives the inside of a mold a matte finish. The injection molds have a different sandblast grade than the vinyl molds as both materials will diffuse light differently. Working out the grade is also part of skin tone color management. If we sandblast a new mold too much, the molded part will appear lighter in tone.
Trial and error is the name of the game to get a good but not perfect match.

By 2016, I started to learn that the sunk cost fallacy was costing me more than the initial Cocoa development costs - it was costing my soul in terms of lying to myself trying to pass off the purple tone to represent darker-skinned humans.

In early 2017, I started revamping the Cocoa tone which went through several internal iterations before being finalized late that year.

While I was happy with the new Cocoa, I soon discovered that it was to be the most resource-intensive skin tone to work on. The properties of soft vinyl encompass blemishes through the slush casting process that are much more noticeable on the Cocoa skin tone leading to higher failure rates. We also spend up to 3 times longer to manually buff down the vinyl surface before assembling the bodies.

From its release in 2017 until mid 2020, Cocoa continued to sell the least out of all the skin tones.
Nonetheless, I strongly felt that Smart Doll could not be complete without Cocoa - because without it, we would only have Cinnamon and Tea, but as we all know, all good things come in three - just like the Star Wars trilogy. Wait - you telling me there were nine episodes?!

While we will never have nine skin tones given our small team of 20+, I am happy that the current lineup broadly represents and celebrates human diversity - and sometimes blue (green soon) aliens too ;-)

Better Together. Stronger Together. Unity represents the united colors of Smart Doll.

On a side note - I mentioned that Cocoa sold the least up until mid 2020 - but then the semi-real sculpts came along and now Cocoa sales are about the same as Tea but nearly reach Cinnamon levels when we release a semi-real girl like Unity ;-)

ABOUT COCOA SKIN

Soft vinyl, while a wonderful material, is prone to scuff marks. While these are almost invisible on Cinnamon or Tea skin tones, they can be more noticeable on Cocoa. To address this, we provide a free Melamine sponge upon request with your order. Include a note in the order field requesting the "free melamine sponge."

When removing scuff marks, gently buff the surface with the sponge in a circular motion. If the scuff is on the face, take extra care to avoid disturbing the makeup. The process may leave a bit of sponge residue, but it's easily brushed off. Following these steps, scuffs will either vanish or become significantly less apparent.

Please be aware that due to the slush casting process, minor blemishes can occur, which might be more visible on the Cocoa skin tone. If you anticipate this as a potential issue, we recommend considering this factor before purchasing.

ABOUT TAKING PHOTOS

We often hear feedback suggesting that our cocoa skin tone dolls pose a challenge to photograph. For those finding it difficult, consider researching photography techniques or trying out camera apps that offer adjustable exposure settings.

It's worth noting that this advice isn't exclusive to cocoa dolls - it can equally apply to our cinnamon skin tones, where overexposure can be a concern. A slight adjustment of exposure settings (and willingness to learn) can go a long way in getting the perfect shot.
