Read this before buying anything! Read this before buying anything!
Each and every Smart Doll is handmade in Japan. While they all look similar, there will be slight differences in the way they look - just like humans!
While the inner frame is injection molded and pretty much all look the same, the molds for the outer shell is hand made and do have blemishes meaning that the final product may also have imperfections.
Blemishes can include small beauty marks, faint streaks or slight color differences which are all caused by various conditions that affect the soft vinyl in its liquid stage just before or after molding.
All the accessories are hand made too which include the eyes, wigs, clothes and so on - all these items may include small blemishes too.
Not all of the dolls have blemishes but if they do and I feel that they do not degrade the overall aesthetic looks of Smart Doll then I will approve them to be shipped.
If I feel that a blemish makes the product look bad then I will disapprove it.
Some blemishes may only visible under strong lighting (like holding a part a couple of cm away from a fluorescent light) or when you start to scrutinize them but they are not a result of bad quality but a result of the dolls all being hand made.
If I knowingly let out poor quality dolls then that would reflect on the brand and future of my product so you can rest assured that I would not let that happen.
If you prefer a spick n span super smooth surface all round then I would suggest that you go for other manufacturers products or wait until I have a legion of robots mass producing Smart Doll in a dust free environment like they have at foxconn making iPhones.
If however you can appreciate the workmanship that goes into making each smart doll as unique as you are then I would be delighted if you decide to adopt one!
If you are really not sure whether you should buy a Smart Doll then you probably shouldnt. Or you can check out our collection of photos from Smart Doll owners on Pinterest and ask any of them what they think of Smart Doll. If you want to learn more then check out my post on Design Philosophy.
