We rigorously test fabrics for potential staining by having our Smart Dolls wear prototype garments for extended periods, sometimes up to a year if they slip our minds! If we observe any staining, we either switch to a different fabric in the same color or avoid that color altogether.
With denim, the challenge is unique. We haven't found a substitute fabric that matches the look and feel of authentic denim. However, we mitigate this by washing our jeans several times before they're shipped out. This process reduces their tendency to stain, especially when worn for shorter durations, like a few days. Also, our soft vinyl is formulated to be more resistant to stains, though it's not completely immune.
For extended wear, beyond a few days, jeans could still cause staining. To address this, we developed a series of stain-prevention shorts and leggings. But there's a catch: for them to be effective, they need to be longer than the jeans, which means they might show above the jeans' waistline - not the most appealing look. To solve this, we added lace to the top of the leggings. This not only serves the practical purpose but also adds a cute touch, peeking out from above the denim.
While these stain-prevention accessories are effective, they will slightly limit movement, particularly when sitting.
Do note that stain-prevention leggings cover the heel of the foot, making it slightly easier when pulling pants up.
Reasons Not To Buy
1. Potential for Yellowing: Although designed to protect, stain-prevention leggings are not bulletproof and may yellow over time, absorbing the color of the garments worn over them. It’s important to regularly inspect your Smart Dolls for any signs of staining, even when using these protective items.
2. Difficulty in Dressing: The leggings can make it challenging to dress your doll in other clothing items worn over them. One method to ease this process is to thread the leggings through the jeans first and then pull both onto the doll’s legs simultaneously.
3. Consider Alternatives: Given the challenges associated with using stain prevention wear, some might prefer to forego both the leggings and the potentially staining outer garments altogether. Consider the ease of use and your personal preferences when deciding whether to use stain prevention gear.
