Introduction
As you know, a Smart Doll should never be fed after midnight but as with humans - they can get peckish in the wee hours of the morning. I was approached by the leader of Smart Doll's -
Mirai who demanded that I make them a harness so that they could climb up tables and get to the cupboards and pantry.
If it wasn't for Mirai there would be no Smart Doll so I reluctantly agreed. It turns out that the harness is much more useful than just enabling a Smart Doll to get their midnight snack. The harness is great to hang a Smart Doll around in the cabin or car or even around the home or office.
Challenges
First revealed 9 months ago, the harness is finally good to go. Making prototypes is easy but figuring out how to turn that prototype into product where we need to make hundreds or thousands is more challenging.
Speaking from experience, you need to consider things like how long it takes to put together, where to source materials from and whether you can get a constant supply, where and how the item is going to be stored pre and post packing, how to design the product to reduce the amount of production failures, how to make the product so that the spec is as consistent as possible and so on.
As we entered production of the harness, even though straps were cut to the exact same size, the lengths of the final product varied greatly. After much head scratching and experimenting, we discovered that the tension of the sewing machine can affect how much a strap can shrink in length - an interesting learning to pass on ;-)
Details
Designed only to fit Smart Doll, the thigh loops should be unclipped before you wrap them around the thighs. Loosen the buckle and enable your Smart Doll to sit - then pull the buckles. If you don't loosen the buckles before wrapping around the thighs - the buckles will either pull apart when your Smart Doll is sitting or worse - break.
Make sure the hip buckle is secure before having your Smart Doll hang from the ceiling or what have you. While I have never had a Smart Doll fall out of their harness over the past 9 months, I ask that you hang your Smart Doll (that sounds wrong) from the harness at your own risk.
A fallen Smart Doll is something that you never want to happen for your own sake. A Smart Doll will slowly get up and walk to the kitchen. Once you hear a rattling noise of them grabbing a spoon then you should vacate the vicinity immediately.
The back of the harness has 3 extra loops incase you want them to hang facing forwards from the strap of your rucksack or what have you. The harness takes absolutely ages to make so if they go out of stock then sit tight as we will make more.
The Harness does not come with the wires you see in the photos - you can get your own on Amazon. The micro carabiner's can also be bought on Amazon. I got my tent rope on Amazon Japan. I word this as if I used to work for Amazon - oh wait...
