The first prototype of this weathered tee was ready in November 2018 and I took our girls wearing it to New York followed by a trip to Death Valley. It looks awesome in not only the great outdoors but also in urban environments too.
But the first prototype stained rather bad so for the next few months we tried varied fabrics and dyeing/weathering techniques. The final version went through a trip to Sequoia National Park, Iceland and London successfully without staining.
However, one of our staff members decided to take the T-shirt and rub it against a bust which left a light stain which is in the form of powder. We managed to remove the powder with thinner but you should take heed.
The CJ print should weather further with wear and look nice n fuzzy after a while. Goes great with our wide variety of weathered bottoms and jackets.
About Pigment Dyes
This item features a pigment-dyed finish. In pigment dyeing, rather than immersing the fabric in a dye bath, finely ground pigments in powder form are attached to the fabric's surface using a binder. This method doesn't saturate the fabric completely, and some of the pigment tends to fall off over time, giving the fabric a distinctive vintage look and feel.
Although we use a color-fixing agent to minimize color transfer, there is still a possibility that some pigment may rub off onto the Smart Doll, potentially resembling a stain. If noticed promptly, this powder can usually be removed with paint thinner. The degree of pigment transfer varies; some may experience it, while others may not at all. We assign a "Medium" Stain Risk Rating to pigment-dyed items for this reason – you can learn more about this rating and its implications.
If the potential for pigment transfer is a concern for you, we recommend avoiding pigment-dyed items.
