The yukata is a traditional Japanese summer garment—essentially a lightweight, casual cotton kimono. Originally designed as comfortable indoor loungewear, yukata are often provided to guests at ryokan (Japanese inns). Today, they are a beloved part of summer culture in Japan, frequently worn to seasonal festivals (matsuri), fireworks displays (hanabi), and hot spring resorts. Many enjoy wearing them as a way to connect with tradition while staying cool and comfortable.
This particular yukata is crafted from chirimen, a traditional Japanese crepe fabric known for its soft crinkled texture, called shibo. The textured surface is achieved through a special weaving technique that adds both visual depth and breathability—perfect for warmer seasons. The result is a garment that not only drapes beautifully but also captures light in a way that gives it subtle movement and elegance.
How to Wear the Yukata

Refer to the numbered images above to follow each step. Please note: the pattern shown in the tutorial may differ from the design of this particular product.
1. Slip on the Yukata
After putting both arms through the sleeves (be careful not to get your fingers caught in the sleeve openings), locate the inner waist strap attached to the right panel of the yukata.
2. Secure the Inner Strap
Feed the inner strap through the slit located on the left side of the waist.
3. Wrap and Adjust
Pull the strap around the back and tie it at the front or side to hold the yukata in place. Before tying, adjust the collar so that the neckline looks neat.
4. Wrap the Obi (Belt)
Wrap the obi belt around the waist and tie a firm knot at the back. Adjust it so it sits snugly and evenly.
5. Shape the Bow
Ideally, the bow should look like this—although personally, I just tie a regular knot ;-) Feel free to do what suits your style best.
6. Final Look
The completed look from the front. Great for indoors, general outings and festivals - but not so great for scuba diving or glacier hiking.
