Update : These prototypes may include wigs that we previously made but have been discontinued. We usually keep a few around until it comes to the point where we realize we won't need them anymore.
Wigs take aaaaages to develop. One of the reasons is that they don't have a mold like everything else. Even apparel has pattern cutting machines.
Wigs only have a style that is created by a human. Folks don't appreciate how much effort goes into making a wig which is one of the reasons why I don't want to sell them separate anymore. I get told time and time again that all wigs should look exactly the same.
But anyway, we still need wigs for our Smart Doll guys and girls or they may get chilly on top.
Before we release a new wig with a doll, we create a ton of prototypes - many don't make the cut - no pun intended.
These are wigs that have been created for product grade but we decided to pursue other styles or colors.
Sometimes wig designs get rejected because the vendor could not come up with the quality we were looking for - thus some of these wigs may not look like the usuall Smart Doll quality - they could be thin on top or have too much puff or wig cap showing too much etc.
These prototype wigs have not been QC'ed or plucked for loose fibers etc. Some may look similar to our current line up - some may be color variations and some may be completely new.
There may be 10 of a similar design - this is usually because we tried making the prototype 10 times before we called it a day so that we could focus on other stuff.
If you are looking for a perfect product grade wig then I would suggest to go for another wig maker to be honest with you ;-)
You will get one (1) prototype wig for every one (1) of this item you add to cart. The photo is just an example of the first batch of prototypes we are letting go. You cannot choose color or style - chaos chooses you.
You may end up with a wig looking similar to something that you could have got for cheaper elsewhere.
