Chelsea is also home to a Japanese restaurant called "Benihana" where I used to work as a waiter for many years.
I remember my first paycheque so vividly. I opened the envelope and just stood there looking at my first wage in silence - unable to move and confused.
How was it that I worked so many hours until late in the evenings only to be compensated so little?
After leaving my dad's studio, I had no income, so I had little choice but to continue working at Benihana - but I'm glad I did, as it changed my life.
It wasn't until later that I discovered the wage was calculated according to sales. During quiet periods, the wage was rock bottom low, but during busy times, the wage was generous. I managed to save enough every year to visit Japan, where I could soak in the culture and improve my Japanese speaking.
During busy periods, Benihana was hectic - which was great as I learned to deal with so much chaos - customers, staff, logistics, inventory, quality control, and what have you.
These days, if I am hiring, I rather give priority to folks who have worked in a restaurant than to folks with a BA or MA.
I also met wifey at Benihana - I am lucky to be with her ;-)
So there you have it - my "Chelsea" story ;-)
We kept the design of the boot orthodox, but we made sure to make them look as weathered as possible so expect a ton of uneven blemishes on the surface that will patina over time as you handle it with your hands soaked in the aftermath of having some Mc Donald's fries.
Unlike human versions, we put a zip on the inside to allow it to be worn with ease. While the Chelsea boot design dates back to the Victorian era, the name apparently derived from the design becoming popular back in the fifties and sixties in an area called Chelsea in London.

Reasons Not To Buy
- Smart Doll boots will probably cost more than your human footwear unless you are one of those sneaker collectors - in which case your Smart Doll may get jealous and slap you.
- While the lining of the boot is cream-colored to minimize the risk of staining, the surface of the leather does not have such stain prevention measures. As such, anything left in contact with the outside of the boot may end up staining.
- Until we find a better longer lasting alternative to faux leather, Smart Doll boots are made of real leather and thus will have blemishes. The patina will develop over time but if you want an even more weathered look then you can lightly sand the surface or rub the surface with your fingers. The oils from your hands will seep into the roughened areas. Just make sure that if you just had a Big Mac to wash your hands first as thats not the type of oils I'm talking about.
- If the product name is "brown blah boots" then don't expect the color to be the same brown in the photos - it can be anything from light to dark brown. Same for "wine red blah boots" - it can be anything from light to dark wine red.
- Not great for water activities such as scuba diving or snorkeling.
- Not effective for ice cream storage.
- Will not look good with a wedding dress - unless the Smart Doll bride is planning on doing a runner after the wedding.
- The soles do not have nonstick abilities like Teflon fry pans - if your Smart Doll steps in dog poo, then poo will do as stepped-in-poo does. If this happens, gently tell your Smart Doll to avoid purposely stepping in poo and look for a patch of grass to wipe the shoe on.
Just make sure that a dog didn't previously visit the patch of grass, or you will end up adding another layer of poo that protects the first layer. If this happens, then you will need to wait until the first layer dries before using a chisel and hammer to remove both layers. Do not inhale while you proceed to de-poo the shoes.
Also, if you didn’t gently tell your Smart Doll to avoid the poo, they may get angry and trample on your pillow before you can catch them (because the boots are so comfy they can run faster even when covered in poo.) If this happens, just turn the pillow over before you sleep.
