If you’ve been following the journey of Smart Doll, you’ll know that one of our ongoing challenges is electroplating the master models used to create our sofubi molds. The second attempt at the G16 sculpt was no exception and resulted in a few surface blemishes being transferred to the mold.
After evaluating the sculpt and testing various face-up designs, I decided that the mold was more than suitable for production. The blemishes do not compromise the character’s appearance and, if anything, add a little individuality - much like the imperfections that make each of us unique.
For transparency, I’ve included close-up photos of the blemishes in question. Because they originate from the mold itself, they will be present on all characters produced using the G16 sculpt. During production, we spend considerable time reducing their visibility through sanding and finishing work, but some marks cannot be removed entirely.
Transparency is important to us. We want you to know exactly what to expect before making a decision, and we’d rather provide too much information than too little. If these blemishes would affect your enjoyment of the character, please keep them in mind before adding them to your collection.
