On smooth surfaces like paper, this produces razor-sharp detail, but on fabric the weave and fiber composition soften the look. Polyester fibers have polymers that open under heat, allowing the gas to chemically bond and lock in color. Cotton fibers, however, don’t bond in the same way — so the design may appear less crisp, with the natural texture of the fabric adding to the effect (image 1 above).
Unlike traditional surface prints, sublimation becomes part of the garment itself. That means the artwork won’t crack or peel, and the shirt stays light, breathable, and comfortable — with a finish that’s made to be worn, not just looked at.
