I'd like to share with you the meaning behind the name "Liberty."
To us, "Liberty" represents the freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control, independence from external or foreign rule, and the freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, and hampering conditions. It also represents the freedom from captivity, confinement, or physical restraint.
Unfortunately, throughout history and even today, a few people in power have caused misery for millions of people. It's disheartening to think that in a world with 195 countries, 195 people get to decide the fate of 8 billion people.
While we don't know when humanity will be liberated from this system, we do know that it won't happen anytime soon, nor in our lifetime. However, we can still work towards promoting independence, strength, resilience, and liberty through Smart Doll.
As up to 80% of Smart Doll purchases are for children, Liberty serves as a symbol of hope. We believe that children are the key to changing the world for the better, and we can help them understand that humans can only flourish as a united race if we treat each other as equals.
We hope that children will stand up against dehumanizing behavior and eradicate oppression, while adults can learn from them and support their efforts. Liberty is a tribute to the human spirit and a reminder that we must always strive for a better world.

About vitiligo and birthmarks
Before I kick the bucket, I want to encourage as many humans as possible to live life as they are instead of the way others want them to be. For this reason, you will see that many of our products symbolize and remind us of this importance. I know of folks who cover their vitiligo patch or birthmark (as I once did for the birthmark on my face when filming Culture Japan the TV show), but nobody should have to modify the way they look for the sake of others.
All humans are completely imperfect, although it may not be as obvious on the surface. For example, the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) ended up doing a scenic route as humans evolved a neck - it loops around the aorta and then back up the larynx when it could be much shorter and thus efficient. Humans also have a backward retina, which is why we ended up with a blind spot. This is because of the way we have evolved from living an aquatic lifestyle.
And then some of us have evolved to be different on the surface. There is no survival advantage of changing our appearance for the sake of others - this is something that should be left to the Mimic octopus, which does indeed rely on its ability to change its shape to survive...
About Development
While paint stencils are used to create vitiligo or birthmark patches, painting is still a process done by hand, and thus no two dolls will look the same. Some patches may appear bigger/smaller/lighter/darker and have fuzzy edges - folks should take note before considering a purchase.
Folks should not expect patch marks on the face, bust and arm to be perfectly synced in terms of paint style and color. As always, if you are worried then the best thing to do is not buy - or ask somebody on social media about their experience.

ABOUT COCOA SKIN
Soft vinyl, while a wonderful material, is prone to scuff marks. While these are almost invisible on Cinnamon or Tea skin tones, they can be more noticeable on Cocoa. To address this, we provide a free Melamine sponge upon request with your order. Include a note in the order field requesting the "free melamine sponge."
When removing scuff marks, gently buff the surface with the sponge in a circular motion. If the scuff is on the face, take extra care to avoid disturbing the makeup. The process may leave a bit of sponge residue, but it's easily brushed off. Following these steps, scuffs will either vanish or become significantly less apparent.
Please be aware that due to the slush casting process, minor blemishes can occur, which might be more visible on the Cocoa skin tone. If you anticipate this as a potential issue, we recommend considering this factor before purchasing.
ABOUT TAKING PHOTOS
We often hear feedback suggesting that our cocoa skin tone dolls pose a challenge to photograph. For those finding it difficult, consider researching photography techniques or trying out camera apps that offer adjustable exposure settings.
It's worth noting that this advice isn't exclusive to cocoa dolls - it can equally apply to our cinnamon skin tones, where overexposure can be a concern. A slight adjustment of exposure settings (and willingness to learn) can go a long way in getting the perfect shot.

Before You Buy (Overview)
Smart Doll’s are crafted with care, intention, and a strong commitment to quality—but they are not designed to be everything for everyone. Since all sales are final, we ask that you take a moment to understand what makes our products unique before placing an order.
The photo grid below highlights common concerns we’ve seen from customers *after* receiving their Smart Doll—despite these traits being explained throughout our website. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision upfront rather than face disappointment later.
The first row covers wig-related traits, the second explains details of our slush-cast vinyl body and frame, and the third focuses on the intentional asymmetry in our face design. A brief overview follows the grid below:
Wig Characteristics
Smart Doll wigs are shaped by hand—not by mold—so variation is natural. You may notice differences in thickness, alignment, or shape from one wig to the next. Some may appear “balding” in spots or shed small amounts of hair when first opened and with continued use. Tight fits can leave marks on the head, and a bit of styling oil residue is also expected. Slush-Cast Vinyl Body & Frame System
The Smart Doll body is made from sofubi (soft vinyl) using a hands-on process called slush casting. This naturally results in variations such as asymmetry, flow lines, air bubbles, and differences in surface texture. The head cap may not match the body color exactly or fit perfectly. These traits are inherent to working with soft vinyl and are part of the handcrafted nature of the product. (images 5 - 8)

Intentional Asymmetry in Face Design
Just like real human faces, Smart Doll faces are intentionally asymmetrical. From the 3D sculpt to the final brush stroke, no two are exactly alike. Hand-painted features such as eyeliner, lashes, and blush will differ slightly in size, shape, and placement. If you’re seeking factory-perfect, machine-printed symmetry, a different brand may be a better fit. (images 9 - 12)
