Introduction

From the hit TV show Supergirl, we are proud to present a Smart Doll of Kara Zor-El - also known as Supergirl. Standing at 60cm (23.6 inches) tall, Supergirl utilizes the Smart Doll vinyl body which features a balance of articulation and aesthetics.

Each hand-made in our Tokyo studio, Supergirl comes with a weathered version of her suit. When she's not battling the forces of evil, Kara can also step into a wide variety of apparel (sold separately) to hide her real identity. 

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) has chosen to partner with Smart Doll as a platform to represent their properties such as the DC heroes and heroines for the first time as large-scale fashion dolls in the Japanese Anime/Manga aesthetic.

Our man-at-arms is Jun David who played a key role in bringing Warner Bros. and Smart Doll together. This partnership would not have been possible without him.

This is our first time working with a Hollywood studio that contains a few more dimensions on top of working with the Anime studios. As such, it's taken a few years to get our first release out the door. 

We were due to release Supergirl in Summer 2020, but the pandemic came with many challenges to work through which has affected the schedule of all Hollywood and Anime licensed characters.

Because of this, we have shifted our focus to release the other DC superheroines as soon as we can - rather than release loads of each character. So while there won't be many units to go around, I think it's important to continue working through the challenges of the pandemic and focus on releasing what we have promised so far - thus more variety over quantity.

Footwear by Jimmy Choo OBE

We worked with footwear designer Jimmy Choo OBE himself on the form factor of Supergirl's boot which had to retain a balance of the original design and something to be worn by our girls who have really long shins ;-)

What's Included

Included with Supergirl are the following items - all entirely handcrafted in Japan in regions such as Fukui, Sabae, Kyushu and Tokyo.

The customer will have to attach the wig and dress the Smart Doll themselves. The Smart Doll will arrive wearing only the default sports bra that helps prevent hypothermia during cryosleep on the long flight.

About pre-ordering

Before you part with your money, we ask that you understand the product specs which require reading of the following.

We expect to complete shipping by August 30th 2021. This means your order may take until August 30th to ship out. Any "where is my stuff" questions asked before August 30th will be canceled and refunded as we presume folks need the product faster than we can prepare.

The order open time is not disclosed to prevent DDOS attacks by bots.

This item is a limited release and orders will close once we reach the amount that we are able to make for this batch. However, we may need to cancel orders placed by scalpers or bots. In this case, we will restock and open orders again. If we do open orders, shipping will be within 4 weeks.

Orders are limited to one per person. Folks who “accidentally” ordered two will have their order canceled and unfortunately won’t be able to place an order on the store again.

Accessories ordered at the same time will be shipped together with this character, but we can't merge any subsequent orders that you place. However, because Supergirl's accessories already fill up the accessory box, large items (busts in particular) will have to be shipped separately which may delay your order. The fastest shipping will be for folks who have just ordered Supergirl.

Reasons not to buy a Smart Doll

This section is very important - we do not want you to be disappointed with your purchase. We set expectations and expect you to understand them before parting with your hard-earned cash.

  1. Smart Doll was designed with a balance of articulation and aesthetics. This means that Smart Doll is not the most articulate fashion doll on the market. Having said that, we feel that it's not the worst looking either ;-)
  2. There is a hole at the back of the torso where the stand plugs in.
  3. Each and every Smart Doll is handcrafted using traditional casting and painting methods. This means that every component will naturally embody blemishes, asymmetry and non-uniform surfaces. We understand that some folks expect perfect precision products for the amount of money they are paying - which is why we feel it's important to set expectations before a regrettable purchase.
  4. We prefer to invest in product quality over product quantity by employing a Cost To Design philosophy (as opposed to Design To Cost). This philosophy ensures the optimum quality of materials and craftswo/manship for the product - but does not ensure the optimum value for the average consumer.
  5. We prefer to invest in the welfare of the humans that create our products. This means that we are unable (and unwilling) to force team members to work long hours to create more products regardless of the demand. This is great for team members who can go home to relax with family, work on a side gig or play some retro games - but bad for the average consumer who wants 100% availability.
  6. There is a pandemic going on - the price of a Smart Doll could put food on the table for a month. Please ask yourself if you need a fashion doll.
  7. Just like anything human-made, a Smart Doll has an environmental cost. 
  8. Depending on the region you live in, you may need to pay import taxes. Import tax amounts are not decided by us. Folks in the US do no pay taxes on Smart Doll products.
  9. Folks who easily feel stressed should not order a Smart Doll. There is a time lag between pressing the purchase button and arrival of the product. The time lag is especially long during a pandemic. We understand that folks are used to Amazon next day delivery and are not used to experiencing the stress of waiting for a product to arrive.
  10. Folks need to be contactable via the email that they used to place the order. Unanswered emails are usually bots so we cancel and refund the order when we don't get a reply. We always contact the buyer with questions before shipping. 
  11. Smart Doll cannot be exposed to bright light, water or be fed after midnight.

Reasons not to buy this product

  1. The suit, cape, boots, and belt feature a weathered look that is non-uniform and asymmetrical. If you and a friend buy Supergirl Smart Doll and place them side by side, the weathering will look different.
  2. The suit is stonewashed to create a weathered look. The suit is not ironed after the wash and may appear to look crinkled.
  3. The stockings have a hole at the bottom - this is a toe hole that catches onto the toe to minimize the risk of tearing during fitting.
  4. The stockings are like human stockings that could potentially ladder or get holes if hit against a hard surface. Do not pose kneeling on a hard surface.
  5. While we have not experienced any staining, the suit color is dark so there is a risk of staining on the vinyl. Even if you use our stain prevention bodysuits, there is still a risk of staining. Having said that, all apparel (regardless of whether it's made by us or not) has a risk of staining - read why.
  6. The S logo (Kryptonian symbol meaning “hope”) is printed to look weathered and then ironed on the suit. The corners of the logo are not perfectly flush with the rest of the suit and if exposed to finger bumps, the logo may peel away from the suit. If this happens, you need to iron the logo back on by placing a cloth on top of the logo before ironing - do not iron on the logo directly. Or use super glue.
  7. The suit only fits the default bust that comes with Supergirl.
  8. The belt is made of Beta Titanium and is molded into shape by hand and then hand-painted. The belt is of a non-uniform shape and asymmetrical. If you looked at the belt on its own, you will see that it is notably molded by a human hand and not by a machine. Paint may chip from the belt if exposed to knocks. There are two holes at the end of the belt which were used to hold the belt during the painting process. The edges of the holes are not painted uniformly. 
  9. The belt is not designed to be a perfect fit around the waist and has to be bent open slightly to wrap around the torso.
  10. The boots are made of leather and feature random weathering markings that are not uniform - both the left and right boot will look different.
  11. While the body is covered by warranty for up to a year (see terms), the uniform and accessories are not.
  12. The suit requires patience and effort to dress.
  13. The sleeves make it difficult to know which way the elbow is bending. If the elbow is bent the wrong way - it will break just like your own elbow. When wearing the suit, take note of the direction the elbow is facing.
  14. Depending on how you style the wig, you may be able to see some of the wig cap.
  15. The wig has a style and not a shape. This means that every single wig is different and will not look exactly like the photos.
  16. We do not dress Supergirl at request - this is something you must do yourself.
  17. Does not fly like the real Supergirl.

Notice for resellers

As part of our anti reseller/bot measures, folks who purchase from this site for the first time will need to answer a few questions which are sent from our team members. Folks need to reply using the same email that was used to place the order. Folks who cannot answer the questions will have their order canceled and refunded. How to dress Supergirl

Have a look at the 12 pack grid photo below - the top left square is the first step, the bottom right square is the last step. I recommend you download the image so that you can zoom in if it looks too small on your mobile device.
  1. Slide legs through stockings with feet attached. Feet must be attached or the stockings will be loose and look terrible.
  2. If you get a kink in the stockings, use your fingers to pinch and adjust.
  3. This is what the join on the stockings should look like.
  4. Put the panties over the stockings and pull them up as far as they will go. Do note that these "panties" is actually the bottom of the suit.
  5. There is a hole at the back of the panties to access the Support Socket.
  6. Remove the arms and bust and then kneel the rest of the body on a soft surface to protect the stockings.
  7. Slide the suit over the torso with the zip undone.
  8. Put the bust back on the torso.
  9. Pull the cape over the bust.
  10. Slide the arms into the sleeves making sure that the ball joints are facing forwards.
  11. Bend the shafts on the shoulders so that they face inwards towards the sockets on the sides of the bust.
  12. Plug in the shoulders into the sockets and then adjust the suit collar so that it looks like the final photos.
  13. Turn the body around and do up the zip.
  14. Bend the belt open and place around the hips.
  15. The belt is not designed to go all the way around the hips or be perfectly flush against the body.

Requests like the above may result in your order being cancelled and refunded, as we simply can’t support them.

We don’t own DHL or FedEx (yet), and sadly we don’t have cosmic powers to control delivery dates or import taxes. Once a package leaves Japan, timing and duties are handled by the courier and your local customs office.
