About Lace Boots


I’ve always wanted to create lace boots for our Smart Doll girls. We’ve been prototyping them for years, but early versions kept looking like toy shoes. In 2019, we finally landed on a design that not only looks like miniature human footwear but also pairs beautifully with our weathered apparel. The leather will continue to age with use, giving each pair its own unique character.

A few things to keep in mind before purchasing:
• While the boots are lined to help reduce staining, please be mindful when posing your Smart Doll. If parts of the body—such as the shins—come into direct contact with the leather, staining may occur and may not be removable.
• The top of the tongue is exposed leather and may leave marks on the lining behind the eyelets.
• The inner eyelets may appear slightly green or dark due to oxidation.
• We’ve left the laces untied so you can lace them your way. Just remember to pull the laces snugly from the bottom up—otherwise you may not have enough length to tie a bow.
• The lace tips are a tight fit through the small eyelets, which were designed to preserve the correct sense of scale.
• The laces are fairly rigid, so a super-tight bow might be tricky. Personally, I prefer tucking the lace ends into a nook instead.
• These boots also fit Smart Doll guys—at least the ones with smaller… feet. High Heel Feet are compatible too, but not required.
• Please don’t pull the lace flaps outward, or you risk undoing some of the stitching.
• As with all of our weathered apparel, no two pairs are identical—not even left and right. Expect scratches, stretch marks, non-uniform color, and other natural imperfections that give the boots a worn, lived-in feel.

The leather will continue to develop a patina over time as it absorbs body oils, collects minor scratches, and reacts to the environment. Some boots may arrive looking newer than others—if you want to accelerate the weathered look, just take your girls out more often.

Please note that boot cuffs, socks, and any background scenery in the product photos are not included.

Reasons Not To Buy

  1. Smart Doll boots may cost more than your own shoes—unless you're a sneaker collector, in which case your Smart Doll might slap you out of jealousy.
  2. The price of our leather boots may fluctuate depending on our production schedule and stock levels. When our schedule is tight—limiting how many we can produce—or when inventory is running low, prices may increase accordingly.
  3. The interior is lined with cream-colored material to help minimize staining. However, the outer leather does not have such protection, so prolonged contact with sofubi may result in discoloration.
  4. Made from real leather (not faux), these boots will feature natural blemishes. We haven’t found a better long-lasting alternative yet, so for now, these are unfortunately not vegan-friendly.
  5. Product may differ in the extent of aging or patina from the photos, as leather naturally develops character over time.
  6. For a more weathered look, you can:
    • Lightly sand the surface
    • Rub it with your fingers (natural oils will enhance texture)
    • Just wash your hands first if you’ve been eating a Big Mac—those oils don’t count and will just annoy your Smart Doll due to that Mc Dees smell following them everywhere.
  7. Color names are just a guide:
    • “Brown blah boots” could be anything from light tan to dark chocolate.
    • “Wine red blah boots” might range from soft rose to deep cabernet.
  8. Not suitable for snorkeling, scuba diving, or other water-based fun.
  9. Not recommended for storing ice cream.
  10. Not ideal with wedding dresses—unless your Smart Doll bride plans to do a runner after.
  11. Soles do not have nonstick properties. If your Smart Doll steps in dog poo:
    • The poo will stick (as poo does).
    • Wipe it off on grass and kindly remind your Smart Doll to watch where they step.
    • But beware—if another dog has already blessed the grass, you may end up layering poo on poo.
    • If that happens, let the whole mess dry, then remove it with a chisel and hammer. Try not to breathe while doing this.
