We wanted to give you a heads up about a change in our policy. Moving forward, we will no longer automatically include a free melamine sponge with our cocoa Smart Dolls. However, if you still want one, you can request it when placing your order, and we will gladly add it to your package at no additional cost.
For those unfamiliar, the sponge we provide is the Japanese equivalent of Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser, known locally as Gekiochi-kun. These sponges are rather useful - not just for cleaning up after your Smart Doll runs around your kitchen spilling stuff, but also for maintaining your Smart Doll’s appearance. They’re great for removing scuff marks and reducing shininess on the shell surface, which can happen if handled with oily in-n-out-burger-hands.
We routinely use these sponges during assembly to buff down any overly shiny surfaces, and we recommend you do the same to keep your Smart Doll looking its best - it can be used on the sofubi shell and elbow/wrist joints.
Occasionally, the headlights of the painted busts might appear shiny due to rubbing against packaging during transit; a gentle rub with the sponge can restore their matte finish - unless you prefer shiny headlights?
Additionally, should your Smart Doll take a tumble, the melamine sponge can be handy in removing scuffs and restoring the matte texture of their face, although, typically, the bust acts like an airbag, helping to prevent facial scuffs. Do remember that when rubbing painted areas - you need to be gentle ;-)
This video below demonstrates removing oils from the thighs and a scuff mark across the cheek.
