Why there is more than meets the eye
The eyes are the most important component as they contain the soul of Smart Doll - no eyes - no soul. During the development process of Smart Doll characters, if we have to dispose of a head for whatever reason, we must remove the eyes before doing so. Disposing of a head that has eyes attached means that the soul will be stuck in limbo - but because the owner and the doll are entangled, the owner will experience their own soul being sucked into limbo too. Albert Einstein refers to this as "Spooky action at a distance."
While the eyes may seem like simple components, the injection molded process involves something called "insert molding" where the digital print of the eye is molded inside the component. This process can cause dust to be trapped inside forever - like a Black Hole. Depending on the size and location of the dust particle, many eyes end up being rejected which then go into the outlet.
Look closely into a Smart Doll's eyes and you will notice that the Smart Doll may slowly look away because they can be shy. You will also notice that you can see your own reflection. This is because we polish each and every eye to get rid of the waves that appear on the surface through injection molding. The concept of a trapped particle in the eye or waves that cant be removed during the polishing process is known as "wave-particle duality."
Eye Packs
For many moons we used to sell eyes as pairs. At the beginning, this was manageable, but then it got to a point where it became unscalable in terms of inventory management of all the SKU's. I want our team to be able to focus on product quality rather than product inventory management. For this reason, eyes will now come in packs.
But due to the amount of preparation time needed for each eye and also considering the failure rate, eye packs will only be available when we are confident that the quota needed for our Smart Doll girls n boys won't be affected.
Anime eyes should only be used on anime-style characters - the print looks too big for most semi-real characters, making them look like an alien.
Likewise, Semi-real eyes should only be used on semi-real style characters - the print size looks too small for most anime-style characters making them look like they are about to scoop your eyes out with a spoon.
There are currently 5 types of eye packs.
Option Anime Eye Pack 1
This contains the "Mirai Design" in Brown, Blue, Gray and Red. The reason why this is "pack 1" is because Mirai was the first Smart Doll.
Option Anime Eye Pack 2
This contains the "Kizuna Design" in Green, Blue, Purple and Yellow. The reason why this is "pack 2" is because Kizuna was the second Smart Doll.
Option Anime Eye Pack 3
This contains the "Twilight Design" in Purple, Yellow, Graphite and Emerald. The reason why this is "pack 3" is because Twilight came after Mirai and Kizuna.
Option Semi-real Eye Pack 1
This contains the "Genesis Design" in Brown, Purple, Emerald and Yellow. The reason why this is "pack 1" is because Genesis (who had brown eyes) was the first semi-real style Smart Doll.
Option Semi-real Eye Pack 2
This contains the "Genesis Design" in Green, Blue, Gray and Yellow. The reason why this is "pack 2" is because Entropy (who had green eyes) was the second semi-real Smart Doll.
Reasons not to buy
- We don't have that many eye designs for Semi-real right now which is why both semi-real packs have yellow.
- Just like how some folks are not happy with how we sell hand packs, some will be unhappy with the way we are selling the eyes but it's either this way or no way.
- You may end up with a pair of eyes that you already own depending on the pack you choose. If this is the case, you can put the eyes on the back of your Smart Dolls head - useful for watching out for backstabbers.
- Just like hand packs, we will not swap out or remove/refund any eyes that you don't want.
- Are not self-installing - you need to use blu-tac that comes with your Smart Doll and manually install them yourself - the Eye Cradle makes it somewhat easier.
- They look like sweets but cannot be eaten.
- They also look like coins but if you try to buy something at Costco with them then you may get a slap.
- More expensive than getting a replacement eye like the one in Minority Report.
