We are now opening up shipping to Mexico by EMS – but there are some important caveats to be aware of.
Why EMS?
In the past, we tried shipping Smart Dolls to Mexico using DHL and FedEx. Unfortunately, both couriers ran into problems with Mexican import regulations concerning dolls in complete human form.
Mexico enforces NOM (Norma Oficial Mexicana) standards, which are official technical regulations covering product safety, labeling, and compliance requirements. When a doll is imported fully assembled in human form, customs often classifies it as a children’s toy, which triggers NOM certification before release. These rules are primarily intended for toys made for young children, but Smart Dolls are positioned as fashion dolls for an older audience (15 and up). While some younger fans also enjoy them with guardian guidance, Smart Dolls don’t fit neatly into the NOM framework. The result has been delays, returns, and frustration for customers.
To avoid these issues, we now ship Smart Dolls to Mexico via EMS (Japan Post) as partially assembled kits. EMS shipments in this format have cleared customs reliably and arrived safely with customers.
What does “partially assembled kit” mean?
Your Smart Doll will ship in kit form – similar to our Peach body kits. Arms, shins, and the head are detached from the torso and packed separately. Once your package arrives, you’ll simply plug them in. Assembly is straightforward and requires no tools. More details in this post.
Processing requirements
EMS does not provide an API that integrates with our store, which means we cannot process Mexico orders in the same automated way as other regions. Everything must be handled manually. On top of that, our team needs to separate and pack each doll’s parts individually.
Shipping cost
Because of the extra handling and manual work involved, EMS shipments to Mexico are not cheaper than courier services. The final shipping fee is roughly the same as DHL/FedEx, even though we’re using EMS.
Note: At this time, these shipping conditions apply only to orders bound for Mexico. Orders to other regions remain unchanged.
