What is the Pear Body
The “Pear Body” is a Smart Doll body type designed with fuller proportions—particularly around the hips, thighs, and lower torso—commonly associated with a pear-shaped figure.
Developed with input from members of the Smart Doll community, this body type reflects real experiences and celebrates a silhouette that’s often underrepresented in the doll world.
Compared to the Classic Body—which features a leaner, stylized silhouette inspired by anime and manga—the Pear Body presents a more natural shape, with a lower center of gravity and increased volume around the hips and abdomen. In fact, the Pear Body is approximately 64% larger in volume and 32% heavier than the Classic Body, giving it not only a distinct visual identity but also a noticeably different tactile experience.
Each body type serves a different creative purpose. The Classic Body offers a more graphic, exaggerated style, while the Pear Body invites new ways to explore realism and inclusivity in character design. Both are part of our commitment to representing the wide variety of people who make up the Smart Doll community.
Posing and Articulation
The Pear Body offers a unique posing experience due to its fuller contours and increased volume. Below are some important points and tips:
Elbow Adjustment
The thicker outer vinyl of the Pear Body may occasionally push the lower arm downward when bent (image 2). A simple push upward of the lower arm can “reset” is (image 3). This behavior also appears on the Classic Body but may be more frequent with the Pear Body.

Seated Posing and Compression
When seated, the thighs and buttocks may compress, creating a gap between the torso and thighs. This is normal and temporary. The vinyl typically resumes its shape once the doll is no longer seated, or a hairdryer can help reset it (image 7).

Due to the larger internal cavity, you may notice increased wiggle in the limbs. This is expected and not a sign of a defect. It’s a result of the size difference compared to the Classic Body (image 4 and 5).

Attaching Arms
Larger cavity size can make arm attachment more challenging. Compress the shoulder when inserting or removing arms for easier handling. If arms detach easily or don’t click when rotated, they likely aren’t properly slotted in (image 1). Also check for arm misalignment during posing..

Thigh Positioning and Feedback
When standing with thighs rotated back, the tops of the thighs may protrude slightly (image 6). This also occurs in the Classic Body but is more noticeable with the Pear due to size. Additionally, the larger hollow thighs increase both tactile and audible feedback, which may be a consideration if you prefer a quieter posing experience.

In the Pear Body, the thigh shells are largely held in place by the shins. If the shins are removed, the thigh shells may come off as well. Should this happen, you’ll need to remove both the foot and thigh shell to make it easier to reinsert the shin frame. Positioning the shin at a 90-degree angle makes it easier to push the shaft back into place. When the leg is straight, there’s little surface area to apply downward pressure—but bending the knee gives you better leverage and control during reassembly.
Slush Casting
Each Smart Doll is handcrafted in Japan using traditional slush casting—a labor-intensive, multi-step process involving air chambers, centrifugal units, baking, and cooling. Molds are created through electroplating, which naturally introduces asymmetry and texture variations.
These unique markings—stretch marks, dents, pockmarks, and birthmarks—aren’t defects but signatures of the handcrafted process. Depending on the mold and timing, no two dolls are exactly alike. Darker tones show stretch marks more clearly, while lighter tones may reveal more birthmarks.
We encourage you to zoom into photos (especially when viewing on your cell phone) to explore these natural textures. We share this openly not to lower expectations but to foster appreciation for the individuality of each piece.
Natural asymmetry extends to all vinyl body parts, including slight differences in shape and thickness between limbs. These aren’t flaws—they reflect the organic nature of the casting process. With proper stance and hip alignment, Smart Dolls can stand confidently.
We understand these traits may not appeal to everyone—and that’s perfectly okay. Our aim is to connect with those who value the individuality and story in every handcrafted Smart Doll.
Compatibility
Head, Hands, and Feet
• All hands and feet are interchangeable between the Pear and Classic bodies.
• Classic heads can technically fit on the Pear body but may appear out of proportion. Due to the wider Pear neck, the fit is looser and not ideal unless you’re okay with frequent readjustments.
